Erotic Authors – What makes them tick? An Interview with Angela Caperton

Dear reader,

As a consumer of erotica, have you ever wondered how the writers of those titillating stories, which make us wet or hard, come up with their wild scenarios. Have they performed what they write about? Do they have fantasies? Have they indulged themselves or are they all talk and no show? (like me.)

I don’t care what they eat. I want to know who they ate or would like to eat! What motivates them? What gets them going?

Shall we find out. This will be the initial interview and today’s person of interest is indeed interesting. I’m pleased to introduce Angela Caperton author of the highly acclaimed Woman of the Mountain. I must admit I haven’t had the pleasure of reading it yet, but I can tell from this interview that I would like to read it.

Welcome Angela, seeing how we are trying to get a feel for the sensuous writer, my questions may be a little pointed, so if you have a problem with a question, just go to the next one.

First question: How did you start writing erotica?

My lover and I started writing erotica to amuse each other. We discovered it was fun and that we had a certain talent for it.

How long have you been writing erotica and would you prefer to write anything else?

I’ve been writing erotica for years, but only in the last two years for publication. . I have enjoyed writing erotica and certainly intend to write more of it, but I also have the desire to write fantasy and am well underway on what I believe will be an epic!

Do you feel you offer anything special to your readers?

If I have anything unique to offer, I think it is my world view. There is a Poe poem that I have always identified with:

From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others were — I have not seen
As others saw — I could not bring
My passions from a common spring —
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow — I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone —
And all I lov’d — I lov’d alone —
Then — in my childhood — in the dawn
Of a most stormy life — was drawn
From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still —
From the torrent, or the fountain —
From the red cliff of the mountain —
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold —
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by —
From the thunder, and the storm —
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view —
–Poe, “Alone”

What are your writing goals?

To express myself clearly and honestly, to tell a good story that will produce an effect on everyone who reads it, whether that is simple erotic arousal or fascination with an idea or character. The writer and reader are ever in a dance, and I want the dance to be exciting and fulfilling.

As an erotic writer, you are assumed to be a sexual person. Do you have any sexual hang-ups?

That’s a good assumption! And yes, I am a sexual person. I don’t like excrement, pedophilia, bestiality, or giving or receiving intense pain. I expect certain standards of conduct in sexual relationships. I can be wild, I can be coy, and my sexual partner needs to accept me for who I am, and what I do.

As an erotic writer and a sexual person, do you have any sexual fantasies?

Of course I do! I am a bit of an exhibitionist and a devout hedonist. I like costumes and sexual roleplay. Exploration is fun with a loving, trustworthy partner.

Have you acted out your fantasy? If you haven’t would you consider living out your fantasy?

Can I refuse to answer this one? Depending on the quality of the security cameras at a certain world-famous amusement park, there may still be a warrant out for my arrest. (o:

He He. Sounds like fun. From where do you get your main characters?

From everywhere. Some of them are idealized (or demonized) versions of people I know. Others come completely from my fevered fantasies (and they come often). Most come from my imagination, sometimes from a phrase or an image in art. I like to think there are characters that surround me at all times.

What is your preferred style, when writing erotica, ie. m/f f/f, m/m, mfm, bdsm, etc?

I don’t have a preferred style as much as a comfort level. I enjoy it all. The more imaginative, the better, but since I am not familiar with all variations of sexual relationship, I am not as comfortable writing certain styles – for instance, m/m. Any writing of a m/m sexual encounter would be purely speculative, and for that reason, I am very cautious about approaching the subject for fear I may miss represent the experience. I am more strongly drawn to m/f in all of its forms since that is what I am most familiar with, but that sure doesn’t mean I avoid other sexual relationships in my writing.

What do you personally look for in a sexual partner?

First and foremost, someone I can trust, especially when exploring more adventurous sexual themes.

Doing what to your sexual partner, gets you excited?

Oh my… I do love sucking his cock. And riding him! I love a good morning perch…
And I love it when his/her eyes turn cloudy with pure ecstasy, when the mind is taken over completely by sensation and we are in that moment where nothing else matters but each other.

Which celebrities or other well-known individuals, if any, do you drool over?

How much space do we have here? I drool over some of the obvious – Johnny Depp, Mark Wahlberg, George Clooney, but I also have a thing for men with great voices and intellect – Kevin Spacey, Geoffrey Rush, John Malchovich. Women who make me drool – Charlize Theron, Katherine Zeta-Jones, Vanessa Williams, and still incredibly beautiful, Isabella Rosellini.

Do you sometimes get turned on by your own erotic writing?

If I don’t get turned on by my writing, I’m doing something wrong! Oh yes, I certainly do.

If so, do you do anything about it?

Of course! If my lover is at hand, we fuck like minks, or I take care of myself. (o:

Have you ever participated in any of the wild scenarios of which you have written?

You know the adage, “Write what you know!” I have definitely based some of my scenes on experiences from my own life, but no, I’ve not been fucked while in a room full of orgiastic Zenthe worshipers! Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t jump on the chance given it though…

In your estimation, what is the sexiest book/story you have written? And do you have a sexy passage that you would share with us.

The sexiest has to be Woman of the Mountain. It covers a lot of sexual ground, and explores the concept of sex as a force of nature. And I would be delighted to share a sexy passage!

“Have you known a woman before, Casmin?” A fluttering like the wings of a bird filled his stomach. “Oh, aye, of course,” he answered, his voice wispy and uncertain. “Of course you have,” Benessa grinned. She untied the cotton at her waist and dismissed the simple girding.

Casmin remembered the times he had seen naked women in Margate, their garments cast aside for certain summer rites, but never had he been so close, touching, thrilling at the mystery and magic of woman’s flesh. Benessa gently guided him, his hands uncertain as they touched her, though she arched into his strokes and rewarded him with kisses and soft bites.

Entwined, Casmin realized that the swollen red head of his cock lay only a finger’s length from the open flower of her sex. Before he could think further on the amazement of the moment, Benessa took his length into her hand and guided him into the treasure of her pussy.

The wet heat stole his senses. Casmin rocked back on his haunches, as she pressed him onto his back, her hands shaping his shoulders, his hips and buttocks, his legs. She guided him until she sat astride him, his hard length buried completely in her, his thoughts gone to flame, obliterated by the sweet cunt that held him in a velvet grip, by the vision of her beauty above him, and the dusk-shadowed desire in her eyes.

She moved, steady and sure; her breath quickened and Casmin moved with her, the pulse of her body in his groin beyond his wildest dreams, the very rhythm of the spring filling his soul. The rush of the stream and the stars in the darkening violet sky became a part of the moment, a molten song of pure ecstasy.

“Now,” Benessa groaned, her sweet, tight cunt closing on him with mind-destroying pressure. She shifted her legs under him again, pulling him up and over her, so that, in a breath, he was atop her, still buried deep in her, her legs tight around him.

The rhythm began again, two bodies suddenly one. Fever filled her gaze.

What is your current release? Please post a blurb or tell us about it.

My current release is Woman of the Mountain, and here is a description:

The fate of Corsinium depends upon Adita’s passion.

Within her mountain temple, Adita, High Priestess of the goddess Zenthe, presides over orgiastic rites of love and desire…

Only the most brave suitors dare approach her, for failure to please the High Priestess can only end in tragedy. As land and people suffer from droughts, floods and war, Adita must find the a way to lift Zenthe’s sorrow, even if it means sacrificing her own desires to serve her beloved goddess, and all Corsinium.

Casmin’s destiny had always been to serve Zenthe. Now as Captain of the temple guard, Casmin must balance his forbidden love for Adita, the deadly allure of the First Priestess and the growing threat of the rival god Kahmudj.

When all the forces of deity and love converge, it takes all Adita’s will, Casmin’s strength, and an erotic rite powerful enough to shake creation itself to spare Corsinium a cataclysmic end…

I was born in Virginia and later raised on a sailboat, and have traveled extensively. My adventurous life has given me an appreciation of the world in all its forms. I am always looking for the next adventure and I continue to travel as Fate permits.

I enjoy watching movies of every kind from foreign films to classic comedies, I play a Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMORPG) called Ultima Online, I enjoy reading a wide variety of books, periodicals, and comics/graphic novels, and I like many kinds of music. I am an animal lover and will brake for lizards!

I write primarily fantasy and erotica to keep my wanderlust in check. I love the freedom that is possible in both genres, and the endless possibilities that await expression. I believe that erotica and fantasy can be true artistic expressions of human feeling and of the dreams that enliven our existence.

Currently I have two works available, Inspiration, an erotic novella set in Renaissance Florence, and my erotic fantasy, Woman of the Mountain, from eXtasy Books.

I am currently working on another erotic short story and a fantasy novel.

I want to personally thank you for being this week’s guest and sharing some very candid opinions with your fans. I hope you have found our questions as stimulating as I found your answers.
